Year 1, Term 3, Week 4: Last lectures of the year
Now is the week of ending of lectures and starting of major revision… maybe. The mocks are next week, which should go, ahm, interestingly, and then mods (proper exams) are in week 8 / 9. But this post isn’t about that.
Some good things did come of this week:
- Got my final computing practical finished;
- Imperative Programming lectures finished early in week 3, so I had no lectures on Thursday or Friday – so I essentially finished this year’s course on Wednesday;
- Sonic the Hedgehog application!
I went to a guest lecture by Donald Knuth on Thursday (obviously having withdrawal symptoms from not having lectures…), and it was really interesting… not the run-of-the-mill kind of lecture you’d expect, but something very different, from someone who is obviously very passionate about their field and has spent a lot of time looking at it and understanding it. In saying that, there was a huge amount of people packed into the room, which did make it very hot, and therefore very easy to drift off to sleeeeeep…
Charlotte and I won some cinema tickets at the raffle at the tortoise fair, so we went to the Odeon to see Angels & Demons in order to use a couple of them. But, apparently you can’t use gift-certificate-ticket-things on movies that have just come out! What the hell?! So we ended up paying more than should have been necessary for the tickets, and an obscene amount for food as well… note to self for future visits: plan ahead. I also saw a play called As You Desire Me in the OFS on Thursday, which was really enjoyable – a very weird storyline, but the cast were able to pull it off very well – if I was in any major play, I’d always be worried about forgetting my lines all the time.
