Year 1, Term 1, Week 4: Cheap chips aren’t that good for you…

I’ve found a chip shop called Posh Fish near Keble. A portion of chips is £1.20, and the portions are absolutely huge! Have to pay for ketchup, which is never good, but nevertheless I think the large chips/pence ratio is maybe becoming a too-regular thing in my diet… ah well, I only have four more weeks to go here, then it’s back to Ireland for six weeks. Yay!

In work related news, I think I finally understand vector spaces, subsets, subspaces, linear independence, spanning and bases in linear algebra! I wasn’t that hopeful in the tutorials or lectures (the lecturer is beyond useless), but our tutor set us a “quiz to do under exam conditions” (i.e. a test) and I found that I could do it, and do it well, or so I hope. I’ll know for definite this Friday, but that definitely cheered me up about work in general somewhat. Now if I can just get my head around the functional programming I’ll be all set!

Found out this week that the hall booked out for Christmas dinner (which is at the start of December) in Freshers week, so I’m a bit past booking that (although, my record for booking dinner in hall in general isn’t always that great… hence the first paragraph of this post). Ah well, next year! Thinking of going on the varsity ski trip next year too (a ski trip for people from Oxford and Cambridge), and you can invite non-Oxbridge people too, for the same ridiculously low price, which will be a blast. Ah well, that’s over a year away so I don’t think I need to worry about that just yet… although it too did sell out really early, so hopefully I’ll be able to get a place next year.

Kim and Catherine are coming to Oxford next weekend, it’ll be really nice to see some people from back home. Definitely need to take them to G&D’s, and Kim is also coming to Sunday dinner in Keble which is always awesome. The choir is such an amazing part of it… just come see. Trust me. :)

Right, got some functional programming problem sheets to write up and analysis to make some headway into, so I should probably stop waffling here and get some work done. In saying that, I think we’re going out tonight…
